Where to go...........

No matter where you are in this country, there is an abundance of great places to go to enjoy healthy living. Included below are some suggestions for you to think about. Click on the links to see more details.

Walking

To most of us, walking is as natural as breathing. Performed correctly, it can provide a work out that is as varied in intensity as any other training method, and can be carried out almost anywhere. Walking forms a vital part of Rob's triathlon as part of his base training. Whether you fancy a walk around a local park or prefer to tackle a mountain like Kinder Scout or Scafell Pike, there is a great place to walk near you!

  • The Mersey Valley stretches from Stockport to the Manchester Ship Canal, and covers some beautiful areas top walk, cycle, ride and run.
  • There are beautiful mountains all over the UK, but just 15 miles from Manchester, the High Peak takes some beating and boasts Kinder Scout the highest of the Peak District mountains. Other favourites of ours are Scafell Pike, Cow and Calf (Ilkley) and Snowdon.
  • Find a park in Manchester with this guide from the City Council. Similar guides are available from Cheshire (walking guide), Trafford, and most other councils.
  • From mountains to moorlands, parks to peaks, find a great walking route here.

Cycling

On a clear evening, there can be few greater pleasures than taking a ride on one of the North West's many cycle paths. Often created from old railway lines or canal towpaths, they provide a refuge from traffic and a variety of surroundings. Cycle paths exist to suit all abilities. At the other end of the scale, extreme cycling such as mountain biking combines health benefits with a shot of good old fashioned adrenaline! The IMBA provides information on trails, events and rights of way in all areas.
