Rob Woollen - Personal Trainer

Rob Woollen's background is in the construction industry where for ten years he worked as a site engineer before retraining as a concrete driller/sawer in 2004. It was on medical advice that Rob turned his back on the construction industry (due to vibration related problems) and made a career out of his love of sport and fitness. Having given impromptu fitness instruction and personal training to many friends, colleagues and family in the past, becoming a personal trainer was the obvious choice.

Rob's main sporting interest is in cross-country running. He trains regularly at Styal Country Park near Wilmslow, Cheshire and also keeps a full race calendar entering various races, mostly around the 10km distance. Rob also competes in the London Triathlon each year as well as a few smaller triathlons for practice.

Another great love of Rob's is the Toughguy endurance event. He competes annually in the winter event, and is a member of the "Toughguy special forces" a dedicated band of volunteers who build and maintain the course as well as being an executive marshal, leading a team of marshals in the summer event.

A competitive swimmer in his youth, Rob still swims regularly and also enjoys hiking, water polo, climbing, kayaking and many other sports when he gets a chance to fit them in!

Although highly experienced as a participant in sport, Rob needed to learn the science behind health and fitness. Having started out as a gym instructor in the five star Radisson Edwardian hotel in Manchester, Rob now holds the YMCA personal trainer award which is considered the "gold standard" fitness qualification in this country. The award consists of modules in nutrition, advanced fitness instructionfitness assessment and training in different environments. Never one to let the grass grow under his feet, Rob is currently studying for his NSCA Certified Personal Trainer award.
